Towering over the Birmingham skyline, perched atop Red Mountain, stands Vulcan. The statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and the forge, was created as Birmingham's entry in the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the largest cast-iron statue in the world. To this day, he watches over Birmingham—a city built on ironworks and steel.
In Prodigal Daughters, the second book in The Blanchard Witches series, Arielle Obreiggon walks through Vulcan Park with her aunt, Blackie D'Angelo. As they stroll beneath the watchful eye of the towering statue, they discuss, among other things, Arielle's love life and her new beau, Forest Blanchard.
